Slideway Liner Sheets & Strips — Sizes, Thickness & How to Choose

Complete guide to TEBAK slideway liner sheets and strips: available colors, standard widths (100–305 mm), thickness options (0.8–3.2 mm), and how to pick the right size for machine tool guideway relining.

Slideway liner material is supplied as skived PTFE-based sheets and strips used to re-line the ways and gibs of machine tools. If you are repairing a worn lathe, milling machine or CNC guideway, choosing the correct width and thickness is the most important first step.

Available colors and what they mean

TEBAK SLIDEWAY liner is available in four colors — Blue, Green, Brown and Brick Red. All four share the same PTFE-based compound and performance profile; color is a visual identifier used to track thickness or batches on the workshop floor. Select by availability and your own convention rather than expecting a performance difference.

How to choose the right width

  • Measure the existing liner or the width of the way surface with a caliper.
  • Select the closest standard width that fully covers the way — 100 mm for narrow ways and gibs, 200 mm and 300 mm for main slideways.
  • Blue and Brick Red also offer 305 mm width (a common import-standard dimension).
  • Non-standard widths are produced on request — send a drawing with your inquiry.

How to choose thickness

Thickness is dictated by how much material must be replaced. After worn ways are machined back to remove damage, the liner thickness restores the original working height. Standard thicknesses run from 0.8 mm up to 3.2 mm. If you are re-lining after a light clean-up cut, a thinner liner (1.0–1.6 mm) is typical; deeper repairs that remove more metal need 2.0 mm and above.

The liner is then bonded and finish-machined — milled, ground or scraped — to final tolerance, so a small allowance above nominal is normal.

Rolls and custom cutting

Material is supplied in rolls, with lengths up to 60 feet available on request. Custom cut strips for individual gibs and ways can be prepared to your dimensions. OEM sizes are accepted — if you have a drawing or an existing sample, send it with your inquiry.
