A good rebuild starts before the liner reaches the machine. Incoming inspection catches wrong width, wrong thickness, damaged edges or an unclear etched side while the material can still be identified and replaced. Use this checklist when receiving rolls, sheets or custom-cut slideway liner strips.
Check the package and identification
- Compare the color, width, thickness, length and quantity against the purchase order.
- Keep the supplier label, batch information and cut-list reference with the material.
- Photograph damaged packaging or crushed roll ends before unpacking if a transport claim may be needed.
- Separate material for different machines or thicknesses so pieces cannot be mixed on the workshop floor.
Inspect the liner surface and edges
Unroll or lay out enough material to inspect the working surface, etched bonding surface and edges. Look for creases, cuts, contamination, delamination, uneven edges or visible damage that could affect the bonded area. Measure representative width and thickness points with the tools used in your quality procedure, especially when the order includes custom-cut strips.
| Item | What to verify | Record |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Color, product series and supplier reference | Label or batch reference |
| Dimensions | Width, thickness, length and quantity | Measured values |
| Bonding surface | Etched side is identifiable and clean | Pass / hold |
| Working surface | No cuts, creases or contamination | Pass / hold |
| Edges | No crushing or splitting in the usable area | Pass / hold |
| Packaging | Dry, protected and suitable for storage | Photo or note |
Store rolls without creating a new defect
Keep the liner clean, dry and protected from sharp edges, heavy loads and unnecessary bending. Support rolls so they do not flatten or develop a permanent crease. Keep cut strips flat when the application requires a flat bonding surface, and keep the etched side covered until preparation begins. Follow the supplier's current storage and shelf-life instructions for any separately supplied adhesive.
Release material to the rebuild job
- Release only material that matches the approved cut list and inspection record.
- Mark each strip or sheet with its machine part and orientation before cutting.
- Return unused material to protected storage rather than leaving it on the machine table.
- If dimensions or surface condition do not match the order, hold the material and contact the supplier before bonding.
